Shanghai: the Center of Importation Trade in China

 

Chinese consuming market has a huge potentiality and shows an increasing demand of foreign consumer goods. The Chinese importation volume amounted to USD 660 billions in 2005, and would climb over 1 trillion by 2010 according to the forecast of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. Since 1992, Shanghai has been keeping two-digits growth of GNP consecutively during 14 years. In 2006, Shanghai forecasted RMB 1000 billions of GDP, an increase of 1.1 time comparatively to the year 2000.

 

From January to October 2006, the total import & export trade of Shanghai accounted for USD 185,476 millions, raised by 21.9% comparing to the same period of last year. Among them, the import amounted to USD 92,542 millions, increased by 19.5%. From January to August 2006, the total international trade by Shanghai ports accounted for USD 273.27 billions, raised by 22.2% compared with the same period of last year; and the import volume was USD 103.25 billions, an increase of 17.3%. The international trade of Shanghai constitutes over 13% of the total import & export volume of China.

 

During the last 10 years, Shanghai has introduced 1,159 international famous brands. Numerous internal famous brands have also entered Shanghai market. By the end of 2006, the total commercial business area in Shanghai accounted for 34 millions of square meters, the consumer goods retail volume totalized RMB 336 billions, an increase of 13% from the last year.

 

 

 

The Focus of the 16th Shanghai Commodities Fair:

International Import Commodities Fair 2007

 

The Shanghai Commodities Fair is currently one of the largest and the most influencing yearly exhibitions in China. It has been held since 15 years. Each year, the fair registered about 100,000 visitors and RMB 6 billions of transactions. From its 16th year, benefiting from the opportunity of coming World Expo 2010 (Shanghai), and in order to speed up the integration of Shanghai import trade into world economic development, the Shanghai Commodities Fair will progressively evolve from a national commodities fair to an international import commodities fair. And the International Forum on Global Business Opportunities and China Global Sourcing will also take place simultaneously during the fair.

 

The International Import Commodities Fair will coincide with Shanghai International Tourist Festival and Shanghai Sourcing Festival. 8 millions of visitors from Shanghai, the other parts of China and abroad will joint these two events. The different commercial sectors and public entertainment places of Shanghai will organize cultural shows, exhibitions and sales activities. As one of the main activities of Shanghai Shopping Festival, the International Import Commodities Fair will display the world at a close distance to Chinese public.
